In January of 2014, Basalt Middle School debuted a new makerspace, where students can learn through hands-on projects via tinkering, building, and "making". Through the programming in this space, students explore everything from how to use hand tools to Lego and Minecraft challenges to experimenting with robotics, 3D printers and 21st century technologies like conductive paint. The space is a hub for lunchtime experimentation, classroom project-based learning, and after school programming.
**In 2016, as part of the bond renovation project, the Makerspace doubled in size, providing more workshop area for students to learn about STEM, create during recess Makerspace times and is a place to support class projects. **
The space relies heavily on donations (see the link to the donation list on this page. For more information, contact Patrick Losique at plosique@rfschools.com
