Below are a few of the top ways you can help out at BMS. Even if your student would like to see less of you (as is normal middle school), we really need your help and hope all families will volunteer a few hours each year.

BMS Parent Accountability Meetings
All parents are encouraged to attend monthly BMS Parent Accountability Committee meetings (PAC) and Latino Parent Evenings with translation. Join us for one meeting or all the meetings as parents and Principal Ellsperman discuss school progress, programs, and ideas for improvement. All parents are encouraged to attend at least once a year. Contact Principal Ellsperman if there's something you'd like to add to the agenda at 384-5901 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The Basalt Band Program *
Over 40% of the BMS student body participates in the Band Program and there are many opportunities to volunteer for fundraisers, concerts, and more.  All parents of band students are members of the Band Boosters.  Please make sure that the band director, Nick Lenio, has your current email address then watch for email alerts for meetings and volunteer opportunities.  Email Nick Lenio (This email address is being protected from spambots. Be a Precollegiate Student Mentor *
Roaring Fork PreCollegiate is a college preparatory program for highly motivated students in Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs who would be the first in their family to go to college. Demand for the program exceeds capacity, and the program is always looking for talented mentors. For more information, click here.

In the Library Media Center *
Parent volunteers are critical to library efforts, such as cataloguing books, helping with the book fair or reading with a child to improve fluency in the BMS Reading Buddies program. Contact librarian Jane Douglass for information at:384-5907 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Special Events and As-Needed Opportunities *
Volunteers are always needed, whether for a bake sale, an evening event, or a fundraiser. Check in the enewsletter, on Facebook, or call the front office at (970) 384-5900 to find out about volunteer opportunities. Have a special skill for which you'd donate your time should the need arise? Let us know. Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

In the Classroom *
Please contact your child's teacher if you'd like to volunteer in the classroom or on fieldtrips.

*VOLUNTEERS PLEASE NOTE: *
If you anticipate volunteering at BMS this year either in the school on a regular basis or on field trips, it's imperative that you have fingerprints on-file. Please pick up a pre-printed form at the BMS office first and then you can be fingerprinted at the Basalt Police Department (100 Elk Run Dr # 115). Fingerprinting is free. Questions? Call the BMS front office at 384-5900.
