How We Communicate With Families
Families are a vital part of our BMS learning community, so we try to keep you informed! We rely on parents to read and check the following resources to stay in touch with the news, happenings, and student learning going on at BMS:
THE BMS WEBSITE
The BMS Website is the heart of our communications platform with parents. We strive to provide all the resources you need, from forms for physicals to parent information such as the lunch menu and teacher contact information to important resources that help familiarize you with our philosophies like Growth Mindset. Take a little time to familiarize yourself with all the resources on these pages.
BMS sends out a weekly enewsletter every Friday. This resource highlights upcoming events, important news, volunteer and donation opportunities, great articles, and more. If you do not receive this email regularly, please update your email address with the front office. You can always view an archive of the enewsletters on our website as well, which are posted in English and Spanish.
Teachers may individually or by grade level send out information directly to their students or parents by email. They may have class websites as well. Please feel free to reach out to teachers by phone during non-class hours or via email at any time. Teachers update the online gradebook halfway through each quarter and at the end of each quarter. Teachers also may post assignments, grades and other information on Schoology, which your student will know how to access.
Wondering what time to show up for the band concert, accountability meeting or sports event? Check the online calendar as the most reliable source of information on what's happening at BMS.
The BMS Facebook Page serves two purposes: to provide important reminders about news and upcoming events and to share with families interesting and fun examples of student learning and culture. Adolescence is a time when it may be hard for parents to figure out what's going on at school, so we take some of that guesswork away by providing families with a view into the school and classrooms.
Miss an Honor Roll Assembly or a band concert? We've got you covered. Check our YouTube Channel a few days after the event. Chances are good we'll have it posted for families to see. We also regularly post video clips of student learning on our Facebook and YouTube feeds.
BMS Shoutpoints are text messages that are occasionally sent out to inform families of important news or upcoming events. Please ensure you cell phone number is current with the main office in order to receive these messages.
BMS families receive Robocall recordings once a week on Thursdays to inform families of whether or not students are current and on-track with their homework assignments. Students who have not missed assignments are on the Academic All Start list. Otherwise, students are on the Missing Work list. Please touch base with your student or student's teacher if you receive a missing work call. Also, ensure you cell phone number is current with the main office in order to receive these messages.
Please feel free to contact Communications Liaison Allison Johnson with any communications questions or suggestions.
