After-School Activities at BMS


Please note: students are not allowed to be on-campus at BMS unless with an adult or program after school.

Access After School Second Shift Classes 
Access After School offers a variety of affordable after-school classes ranging from cooking to tech and make classes to the arts. View the flyer in English and Spanish. Classes start Oct. 15.Check out the BMS classes and register on their website: http://accessroaringfork.org/bms/

Aspen Science Center STEM Lab
A partnership between Aspen Science Center and Texas Instruments.
Students will explore basic coding and engineering using TI graphing calculators and the state-of-the-art TI-Innovator equipment. We will begin by designing and constructing a simple mood ring using temperature sensors and the Innovator Hub. This will serve as our introduction to the TI-Basic coding language allowing us to move on to the TI Rover; a robotic vehicle that students will program and operate. Along with guided projects, students will have opportunities to tinker with the rovers and other equipment.

Homework Help
The program started Monday, Oct. 15, and runs for 10 weeks, with another program offered in second semester as well. These sessions run from 3:30-4:30pm. Every grade is offered on 2 days with the following schedule:
* Mondays: 5th and 6th grade sessions
* Tuesdays: 6th and 7th/ 8th combined sessions
* Wednesdays: 7/8th for athletes only
* Thursdays: 5th and 7th/ 8th combined sessions

Mountain Biking Club
This free BMS club with Roaring Fork Cycling meets after-school in the fall and spring as weather permits. Teachers and parents are welcome to join. A RFC Registration Form and a BMS permission slip are necessary, as is a bike and helmet. Visit the Roaring Fork Cycling page below for time/date details. Lego Robotics
Basalt Middle School is home to an award-winning Lego Robotics team. A 7th/8th Flex Class works on LEGO robotics, while the after-school team practice is open to its students (with limited space to interested 5th & 6th students when available).The team practices regularly throughout the fall, competing regionally and statewide during the late fall and winter. Parent coaches are often needed and students are encouraged to join the after-school team.

Girls on the Run 
This program is open to 6th-8th grade girls (5th should register with BES) and students will register at the Basalt Middle School site for the Heart and Sole program. The program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5pm. Practice begins Sept. 4, Students should register by Sept. 9.

Spanish Class 
This is a great supplement option if your student is signed up for a flex Spanish class at BMS. Students may sign up for the entire year or for just half the year when they don't have Spanish at BMS.  Semester 1 dates: August 24th - December 14th (1st Semester), Fridays 3:45-4:45. Where: Mrs. Sanders classroom at BES in kinder hallway room A202 (same as last year). Cost: $10/ class (Semester 1 - $120).

Wren's Nest Art Studio
Run by our amazing former teacher Jessica Lahey, the Wren's Nest Art Studio offers a four-week art program of after school classes Monday-Thursday. RFL SPARK After-School Leadership Camp for 5/6th Grade Girls
Girls will learn valuable social and emotional skills in a fun, safe environment utilizing games, role play, outside activities and more! There's also skill building in Listening, Conflict Resolution, Decision Making, Mistakes + Apologies, and More! 6 sessions - Wednesdays 2-3:30 – September 19th – October 24th. $75 (scholarships available).

The Passes and Lessons Scholarship Program is geared towards students who wish to focus on vocal and/or instrumental education. Little League Baseball
Spring baseball is offered to boys and girls ages 8-14. Players are put on teams according to skill/age level. Teams play 20 games beginning in April and ending the first week in June.
